The Stillwater lift bridge is up and running for the summer.
Operations started Wednesday morning even though there is still ice on the St. Croix River three miles south of Stillwater, in Bayport.
The first Padelford boats went out on the river on Saturday for a couple of proms and a wedding.
But Captain Dan Trudeau says they were limited by how far downstream they could travel because they would have run into ice if they went too far south.
Trudeau says this is the latest in the season he can remember there still being ice on the St. Croix.
Now that the lift bridge is operating, he's glad he'll have more water to venture out on.
