2013 Winter World University Games Curling Tryouts Come to Blaine

Curling tryouts for the 2013 Winter World University Games in Italy will be held this weekend at Fogerty Arena in Blaine.

The trials will determine the members of Team USA who will compete Dec. 11-22 in Trentino, Italy.

According to organizers, the Winter World University Games is part of the biggest international multi-sport and cultural festivals in the world. It includes curling, snowboarding, skiing, skating, and hockey.

Organizers say about 2,500 participants from 50 countries attend the event.

This weekend, athletes from four men’s teams and five women’s teams will try out to represent the country this winter.

The tryouts are free and open to the public to attend. Matches started Friday and will continue Saturday starting at 10 a.m. The tie-breaker sessions take place at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Sunday, May 5.
