Police are releasing new details in their search for a missing 24-year-old Eden Prairie woman whose ex-boyfriend committed suicide outside of the Eden Prairie police station.

Police say Mandy Matula's boyfriend, David Roe, legally purchased a gun in Carver County on April 27 less than a week before she disappeared.

Matula has been missing since leaving her family's home late Wednesday. She was last seen with Roe.

Roe had agreed to speak with police about Matula's disappearance before he shot himself. He left a note behind, which had no mention of Matula.

The note directed police to a short video on his cell phone, which was a goodbye to his family.

Additional details on the note have not been released. Roe was pronounced dead Friday.

KSTP reporter Naomi Pescovitz spoke with Matula's dad and brother Monday.

Matula's brother is searching with a team of volunteers at Grass Lake Monday night, hoping to bring his sister home.

Matula's dad, Wayne, is driven by love and faith. He said, "We have that hope, God gave us that opportunity to call for him in times of need so I have to believe that."

Police shared information in the case with Wayne who said, "(It's) the same we've heard for the last four days, there is just no evidence to follow."

An unfired bullet was found near Victory Lutheran Church in Eden Prairie on Saturday, which was consistent with the gun that Roe used to shoot himself. But police said the match wasn't 100 percent.

Police have not revealed the gun's caliber. There were reports of gunfire near Victory church. According to police, several calls were made reporting gunfire.

Evidence from Roe's vehicle, cell phone, computer and his home and financial records have led police to search in targeted areas.

Police held a news conference Monday about the case, saying that authorities have searched Chanhassen, Victoria, northwest Stearns County and Hennepin County.

Those are the areas where Roe had his cell phone signal ping off towers, according to police.

Police say they've confirmed Roe stopped for gas at around 4 a.m. Thursday in Maple Grove.

Meanwhile, numerous tips about Matula have been flooding into police.

A search Monday of the Carver Park Reserve turned up a piece of black clothing and a pair of gloves, which police collected, according to a Facebook message from searcher Meglin Lee. The group also found a red and white broken necklace or bracelet.

Police recommend that Eden Prairie residents interested in helping should search their own property and neighborhoods, including nearby wooded areas. While searching, police are reminding the public to be safe and respectful of private property.

Police are trying to narrow the search for Matula. It's unclear where authorities will search next.

Anyone with information on Matula's whereabouts, or who may have seen her with Roe on Wednesday is asked to call the Eden Prairie Police Department at 952-949-6200.

Matula and Roe graduated from Eden Prairie High School in 2007. The Duluth News Tribune reported that Matula played softball at the University of Minnesota Duluth from 2008 to 2011.

In 2007, Roe was arrested in a stalking incident in Hennepin County, police said. But he was never criminally charged.

Matula has been a part-time seasonal worker with Eden Prairie's Park Maintenance Division since 2007.

Grief counselors and chaplains have been made available to her co-workers.
