Successful college basketball coaches Buzz Williams (Marquette), Shaka Smart (VCU), and Andy Enfield (USC) got their jobs, in large part, because of the networking they did at the Villa 7 convention.
Run by Gophers administrators Mike Ellis and Norwood Teague, the convention was held in downtown Minneapolis over the weekend.
It brings together athletic directors and men's and women's assistant coaches, a two-day gathering for the sake of introducing everyone. As for the assistant coaches, they are put through extensive training on how to interview for head coaching jobs, and anything and everything you can think of that could help them in the future.
In total, 112 coaches have come through the Villa 7 convention in the last nine years that are now running their own program.
The event is by invitation-only.
