Edina High School has hired Joe Burger as the new boys basketball head coach. Burger will start working with the team this summer during open gym.
"I am honored for the opportunity to lead an already successful basketball program and intend to continue the tradition of Edina athletics in educating student-athletes well beyond just basketball,” Burger said. “I am excited to work with our entire program - youth through high school - and live up to the Edina standard of bringing continued pride to our school, our district and our community."
Burger has seven years of experience coaching at the high school level both at Minnetonka High School and Holy Family Catholic High School. While at Minnetonka, Burger served as an assistant coach before being named the Interim-Head Coach in 2010. From Minnetonka, Burger moved to Holy Family where he led the team to a 2010-11 Conference Championship and a 2012-13 Section 6AAA Final appearance.
Burger works at Minnetonka High School as a Student and Program Supervisor, where acts as attendance dean.
“We are pleased to add Joe to our coaching staff,” said EHS Assistant Principal Jenny Johnson. “His experience leading similar programs at the high school level makes him stand out and we’re excited to bring his expertise to the Edina boys basketball program.”
The Edina High School boys basketball team placed third at the 2013 Class AAAA State Boys Basketball Tournament.
