A new nature sanctuary that's been in the works for decades is finally becoming a reality.

The Trout Brook Nature Sanctuary will add some green space to a mostly urban area near 35-E in St. Paul.

Right now, the 40 acre site at Maryland and Jackson includes an abandoned car lot and a railroad right of way.

"Green space is part of building strong, wholesome, happy communities," said Deputy Mayor Paul Williams.

St. Paul Landscape Architect Kathleen Anglo said, "We're going to be recreating Trout Brook Stream... we're going to be creating wetlands."

The project has been discussed for 20 years among determined community members.
