Charges have yet to be filed against a Sandstone day care provider who police say was drunk on the job. Pine County sheriff's deputies found a three-year-old girl wandering on Highway 23 on Wednesday, which led them to the nearby daycare.
According to Katy Chase of the Minnesota Licensed Family Child Care Association, roughly 6,000 daycare providers in the state are not licensed. However, Chase says licensed childcare providers must meet several standards such as knowing CPR, first aid, passing criminal history background checks, and studying child development.
According to the Department of Health and Human Services, licensed home daycare providers must also be inspected by their counties at least once every two years.
