Many schools and other groups do food drives over the holidays, but this year local food shelves are asking more people to have summer food drives.
Many Minnesota kids get free and reduced price lunches during the year so the summer months can be a challenge. That's why KSTP is part of Summer Harvest, a push to get kids helping kids.
A KSTP crew was at the Emergency Foodshelf Network when a group of kids from a Montessori school came by to drop off a big donation.
The group collected 4,000 pounds of food for the Emergency Foodshelf Network.
The Emergency Foodshelf Network appreciated this big effort from the small kids. "It's so cool to see these Montessori schools step forward and do these food drives. It really speaks to our Summer Harvest campaign which is kids helping kids," said Lori Kratchmer.
