State of Minn. to Take Over Health Inspections in St. Paul

Starting Tuesday, the Minnesota Health and Agriculture Departments will begin inspecting restaurants, hotels and swimming pools in Saint Paul.

The move comes after the state says the city wasn't doing a good job. They reviewed Saint Paul practices and say they found inspections weren't done on time, they were inaccurate and there was a lack of staffing.

The switch has some restaurants like Golden's Deli in downtown Saint Paul concerned over exactly who will be doing health inspections.

The city of St. Paul says it's inspected food establishments since 1887 and take the duty to protect health safety very seriously.

They've even tried to stop the takeover with a temporary restraining order, a judge has yet to make a ruling.
