A nonprofit foster group for dogs has teamed up with the Minnesota Correctional Facility in Lino Lakes to give second chances to K-9s and prisoners.
The group Being Advocates for Rescued K-9s (B.A.R.K.) collaborated with prison officials in December to create temporary homes at the prison for dogs, where prisoners care for the animals and evaluate their schedules, playtime, feeding, training and crate time.
The Minnesota nonprofit Pause 4 Paws also has helped with the program.
The dogs are leaving the prison trained and sociable, program organizers say.
