Police at the U.S. Capitol say they have arrested what they describe as a "high level" staffer for Congresswoman Michele Bachmann.
Police say earlier this year, there were thefts at the Rayburn Office Building, which houses the offices of members of the House of Representatives.
Thirty-seven-year-old Javier Sanchez of Virginia has been charged.
Sanchez has been charged with theft of money or goods less than $1,000 in value.
A favorite of the tea party movement, Bachmann ran unsuccessfully for the GOP presidential nomination in 2012. She recently announced she will not be seeking another term in the House.
ABC News reports Sanchez was Bachmann's Legislative Director until he was arrested.
Bachmann's office said Sanchez is no longer employed with them and all further questions should go to Capitol police.
