Second Harvest Heartland on Saturday, July 20, hosted its second annual Pack-a-Thon in Golden Valley.
Participants packed 30,000 pounds of food for distribution to food shelves throughout Minnesota and western Wisconsin during the daylong event. They paid $25 to participate in the event.
The goal for this year's Pack-a-Thon is to raise $60,000 and pack more than 30,000 pounds of food. Second Harvest anticipated that Saturday's event would provide nearly 170,000 meals to those in need.
More than 600,000 Minnesotans and people in western Wisconsin are at risk of missing a meal on any given day, the group reported.
