Joe Mauer was scratched from Tuesday night's lineup to be with his wife who went into labor, according to Twins Communication Director Dustin Morse.

The Twins catcher and his wife Maddie had twin girls, named Emily and Maren, according to Morse. Maddie Mauer's due date was set for Aug. 31, so she went into labor about six weeks early.

Joe Mauer flew to Minnesota Tuesday night to be with her for the delivery, according to Morse. She gave birth early Wednesday morning.

The Twins took on the Anaheim Angels without Mauer behind the plate. Chris Herrmann, making an emergency start behind the plate, hit his first career grand slam in a seven-run 10th inning that sent the Minnesota Twins past the Angels 10-3.

Morse said the Twins placed Joe Mauer on the paternity list and recalled Drew Butera; Butera will join the team in Anaheim.
