A 20-year-old Eden Prairie man drowned in the Temperance River Friday evening, according to the Cook County Sheriff's Office.
Authorities were called to the Temperance River State Park in Schroeder at about 5:25 p.m. Friday.
Deputies said Pavel Shtrefleng was swimming in a pool just below the bridge on the lake side of Highway 61. Witnesses said he got caught in the current and was pulled under multiple times, according to the sheriff's office.
Deputies said Shtrefleng's brother attempted to save him, but was unable to reach him because of the current.
Shtrefleng was submerged for 4 to 5 minutes before the current released him, according to deputies. At that point, authorities said his brother and another person were able to reach him and bring him to shore. Deputies said CPR was performed for 20 to 30 minutes before the ambulance arrived.
The sheriff's office reported that the Cook County Ambulance brought Shtrefleng to the Cook County North Shore Hospital in Grand Marais, where he was pronounced dead.
