It’s been a while since I’ve done a movie review and I am very excited to review Shout Factory/Scream Factory’s “Lifeforce” Blu-ray/DVD collector’s edition.
It has been many years since I’ve seen this film and I really enjoyed it.  After watching it again after all of these years, I still enjoy it.

I really thought the story is unique and I really liked how there was a mixture of sci-fi and horror.
“Lifeforce” is about a bunch of astronauts who are up in space on a mission to study Halley’s Comet.  While they are in space they encounter a strange spaceship.  They go on board and discover giant bats that are dead and three aliens that look like humans.  They decided to take them back to their ship to study.  Some time goes by and the astronauts are not heard from, so a rescue mission is sent up to investigate.  They discover that the spaceship of the missing astronauts has been burned and they are all dead.  You find out that one of the astronauts has escaped and made it back to Earth and so have the aliens.  The aliens are actually vampires and their plan is to suck the lifeforce out of all the people on Earth.  It is now up to the sole survivor to try and defeat the vampires.

“Lifeforce” was released in 1985 and was directed by Tobe Hooper (The Texas Chain Saw Massacre/Poltergeist) and is based on the novel “The Space Vampires.”  It stars Steve Railsback, Peter Firth, Frank Finlay, Nicholas Ball and Mathilda May.

I thought that the special effects were very well done.  There vampires looked great and there were a few scares.  However, there were a few effects that looked pretty silly, but that’s what makes the movie fun in my opinion.
The video quality of the movie was superb.  I thought that it looked great and was very sharp and crystal clear.  It is presented in 1080p High Definition Widescreen (2.35:1) (BD)/Anamorphic Widescreen (2.35:1) (DVD)/DTS HD Master Audio 5.1/Dolby Digital 5.1.
The special features are once again completely amazing.  They include:
- The longer director approved cut
- The original theatrical version in HD (Blu-ray disc only)
- Audio commentary with Director Tobe Hooper, moderated by Filmmaker Tim Sullivan
- Audio commentary with Special Make-up Effects Designer Nick Maley
- New Interviews with Director Tobe Hooper, Actor Steve Railsback, and Actress Mathilda May
- Original “The Making of Lifeforce” Featurette
- Still Gallery
- Theatrical Trailers
- TV Spot

Overall I really enjoyed Shout Factory/Scream Factory’s ““Lifeforce” Blu-ray/DVD collector’s edition a lot.  I thought the movie had a great story and it looked amazing in HD.  The acting was great and the special features were top notch.  “Lifeforce” is available now and is rated “R.” I would highly recommend that you check this film out.  It’s worth it.
