Friday is “Bring Your Gun to Starbucks Day” across the country.
Even before the school shooting in Newtown, Conn., Starbucks has stood its ground on guns, abiding by the Open Carry gun laws in the states that allow it. Minnesota is one of them, as long as gun owners have a permit.
A grassroots effort organized on Facebook says gun owners plan to go armed to Starbucks Friday as part of an “I Love Guns and Coffee” campaign to show their appreciation to the company.
A Starbucks spokeswoman released the following statement:
"These events are not endorsed by Starbucks. That said, we recognize our stores are a gathering place for the communities we serve, and we respect the diverse views of our customers. We recognize there is significant and genuine passion around open carry weapon laws. Our long-standing approach remains unchanged. We comply with local laws and statutes in the communities we serve. As the public debate around this topic continues, we encourage customers and advocacy groups from both sides to share their input with public officials."
