Travel Thursday: Lost Luggage, Turbulence

In this week's Travel Thursday, airlines are the main focus with lost luggage and turbulence-free flights.

Nearly 23 million checked bags are lost every year and this summer alone airlines could lose an estimated 637,000 bags. Most bags get lost on the long conveyer belts. Experts say checking in too early or too late can increase the chance of lost luggage, and the best time to check in is 60-90 minutes early.

If the thought of flying makes you queasy, German researchers say a turbulence-free flight could soon be a reality. By attaching a laser that detects turbulence to the front of the plane, pilots can see when bumps might occur and respond appropriately.
