A Farmington man has been charged in a fatal crash in Apple Valley.
Salomon Galacia Adorno, 32, was charged Friday, Aug. 16, in Dakota County District Court with misdemeanor careless driving. Adorno was charged by summons.
Authorities responded to a rollover crash Dec. 2, 2012, on Highway 77, the criminal complaint said. Two vehicles - a GMC Savana van and a Chevrolet Tahoe - were blocking the northbound lanes. The Savana was on its passenger side with severe front and roof damage. The Tahoe had severe front-end damage.
Two occupants were trapped inside the Savana, the complaint said. A front-seat passenger in the Savana, identified as 26-year-old Inocencio Munoz-Gutierrez, of Farmington, had died, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.
Adorno was identified as the driver of the Savana. Adorno, who was critically injured, did not have a state driver's license at the time, according to the complaint.
Three passengers in the Tahoe were complaining of chest pains, and one of the occupants had a cut on her neck. Jason Bruenig and Kristi Bruenig, both of Lakeville, received minor injuries, the state patrol said. A 7-year-old girl in the vehicle was not hurt.
The Tahoe's driver told authorities that he was traveling in the left lane north on Highway 77 when the Savana appeared in front of him, broadside, according to the complaint. The driver said he had very little time to react before colliding with the Savana.
A witness told authorities that the Savana swerved slightly right and then abruptly to the left, as if the driver was over-correcting himself, the complaint said. The Savana then collided with the crash cushion guardrail surrounding the bridge pillar at McAndrews Road.
The Savana went airborne and landed in the left lane of northbound Highway 77.
Adorno likely will appear in court in about two weeks, the county attorney's office reported.
