A love of gardening here in Minnesota is helping to heal a community halfway across the nation.

Professors and students from Inver Hills Community College and Metropolitan State University will plant a 30-tree orchard in Newtown, Conn. The orchard will be part of a garden honoring victims of the December massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary School.

The Star Tribune reports they will leave in October to plant the fruit trees but need your help; they won’t be able to plant the trees unless they can raise enough money to cover travel expenses for the students.

To offset the cost, Inver Hills is accepting donations. You can find out more about how you can help by visiting our Links page.
