A victim of the shooting in Aurora, Colo., is getting ready to finish his dream.

Stephen Barton and a friend stopped in Aurora to see “Dark Knight Rises” while on a cross-country bike tour in July 2012. When accused gunman James Holmes opened fire in the theater full of people watching the Batman movie, Barton was shot in the neck, arm and face. He has since fully recovered.

Barton will ride the remaining 1,400 miles to San Francisco over the next three weeks to complete his cross-country bike tour. He’s raising money for the Colorado Organization for Victim Assistance.

“It’s a huge sense of closure,” he said. “I’m excited to get on the road and just leave the town behind and head west.”

Holmes is accused of killing 12 people and wounding 70. He pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity to multiple charges of murder and attempted murder. Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty.
