For high school basketball star Rashad Vaughn, what happens in Vegas, won't stay in Vegas.

The former Robbinsdale Cooper standout is rolling the dice and taking his talents to Findlay Prep, which is near Las Vegas, for his senior year in high school.

"My family and I decided that would be best." Vaughn said, "I had a lot of schools in mind. We sat down and talked about everything."

"Just better competition, a national schedule. I want to get out of my comfort zone. That's the only way you can get better."

And he's already become a lot better this summer thanks to his workouts with a trainer in the Twin Cities.

"Just after a month I started doing dunks I've never seen." Vaughn said. "I'm bullying people on the court. I've been getting bigger and stronger and I'm jumping higher."

That was evident on the summer AAU circuit as Vaughn put himself in position to be a high draft pick in the 2015 NBA draft.

"That's why I do a lot of this for. That's my dream to get to the league. If I can be one-and-done, that's what I'll do. That's on my mind."

So is deciding what university can best position him to reach the NBA in just one year. Richard Pitino and Gophers are still in the mix, but that can't be said for Richard's dad, Rick, and the National Champion Louisville Cardinals.

"I decided if I play for a Pitino, it'll be for Minnesota." Vaughn told 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS. "I've built a good relationship with him and the whole staff. I'm excited to see what he can do. I think he'll change the program around. The Gophers got a good chance."

They'd gladly take him, even if it is for just that one year.
