It was a historic day at the Minnesota State Fair on Tuesday as Minnesotans publicly thanked thousands of Vietnam veterans for the first time in 50 years.
It wasn't your usual welcome home parade. The men and women never got a ticker-tape parade when the Vietnam War ended, in fact many were received with hostility. Today, marking the 50th anniversary of the Vietnam War, crowds of Minnesotans tried to make up for past hurts.
The streets of the fairgrounds were filled with a lot of mixed emotion. Minnesotans waved flags with a strong sense of pride for the Vietnam veterans who risked their lives; but also a bit of remorse that it took 50 years for the veterans to finally get an appreciative "homecoming."
