Sports Events, State Fair Cause Traffic Headaches in Twin Cities

A trifecta of major sporting events plus the Minnesota State Fair made for a busy Thursday in the Twin Cities.
The Minnesota Vikings and the University of Minnesota Golden Gopher football team were in action at their Minneapolis stadiums. The Twins had a game earlier in the day. Add to that the big draw of the Minnesota State Fair, which is in the second week of its run in nearby Falcon Heights.
The confluence is making for a busy night on the roads.

To handle the extra cars and people there were traffic control agents at various intersections to keep traffic flowing. There were also special traffic signals with different timing and an extra Northstar train in service.

The city urged people to take public transportation. Metro Transit added 20 buses to take fans to and from the games. There were also more than 70 message boards around the city with information on parking.
