The Brown County Sheriff’s Office reported Friday that a man died after becoming trapped in a burn pit in rural Sleepy Eye.

The sheriff’s office was called around 4 p.m. Thursday to Prairieville Township on a report of an accident.

Officials say 77-year-old Donald George Richert had been working with a skidloader near a burn pit when he got off the skidloader to move something. The skidloader then moved forward and pinned his left leg under the front end, trapping him in the burn pit.

Officials say Richert suffered extensive burns and was pronounced dead at the scene.
