Authorities have identified the people involved in a murder-suicide that happened outside of a Roseville business Thursday afternoon.

An investigation indicates 44-year-old Cheng Vang allegedly shot and killed his wife’s coworker, identified as 33-year-old Joseph Yang, and then turned the gun on himself. The shooting happened in a delivery area behind several stores on the 1900 block of County Road B2 West along Prior Avenue.

Cheng Vang was taken to Hennepin County Medical Center with a critical head injury, where he was pronounced dead.

Cheng Vang’s wife, identified as 37-year-old Yong Vang, worked with Yang at CPI Card Group. Police say there were phone calls between the three people to plan to meet behind CPI Thursday. Investigative interviews revealed that Cheng Vang may have believed Yang and his wife were having an affair and that the meeting was a way to lure Yang to a familiar location, police say.

According to police, the Vangs arrived together by the loading docks, and Joseph Yang arrived moments later. Police say Cheng Vang then shot Joseph Yang several times with a semi-automatic pistol and turned the pistol on himself.

Police say the weapon was legally purchased by Cheng Vang in May 2013.

Yong Vang is reportedly cooperating and is not considered an accomplice in the death of Yang. The Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is assisting with the investigation.
