A man was arrested after a standoff with police Friday afternoon in Apple Valley.

Police responded to the 12000 block of Geneva Way around 2:22 p.m. to a report of a man making threats with a knife. The victim was not injured, but feared for his life, according to police.

The suspect took off from the scene in a red van before police arrived.

Through an investigation, officers learned the identity of the suspect and that he lived near the victim. Officers found the red van that matched the description of the one the suspect was reportedly driving.

Police tried to make contact with the suspect by knocking on the door and by phone, but they were unsuccessful.

The Apple Valley Police Department called in a tactical operations team.

Around 5:20 p.m. the suspect came out of his home and surrendered. He was arrested without incident and taken to the Dakota county Adult Detention Center in Hastings.

Formal charges are expected Monday. The suspect’s name has not been released.
