Police have found an 18-year-old who witnesses said threatened to bring a gun to an alternative learning center in Waite Park, causing the school to close Friday.

The teen is a former student at McKinley School, 216 Eighth Ave. N., said Waite Park Police Chief Dave Bentrud. As of Friday, police had interviewed the teen, who denied threatening to bring a gun to the school. However, he said he threatened to assault a student there.

Witnesses told police about the alleged threats.

It's unlikely that the teen will be arrested or charged in the incident, Bentrud said.

School District 742 officials decided to cancel classes on Friday as a precaution because police couldn't find the former student, Bentrud said. Classes are scheduled to resume Monday. About 300 students in grades seventh through 12th attend McKinley School.

Classes at other schools in the district are still in session.
