A 43-year-old woman has been sentenced for a crash that killed two people on a motorcycle in East Bethel in September.
Paula Lynn Larson was sentenced Friday by an Anoka County District Court Judge to 69 months in prison, but the judge stayed the sentence. Instead Larson was put on probation for 10 years, and ordered to pay restitution to the victims' families. Larson was then ordered to spend one year in jail.
Larson, who has no prior criminal history, pleaded guilty to two counts of criminal vehicular homicide on Aug. 15 for the crash that killed John Allen Jordan, 48, and Patricia Lyn Kalla, 46, who were riding a motorcycle.
On Sunday, Sept. 16, around 7:40 p.m., Larson was driving westbound on Viking Boulevard in East Bethel when she made an "unknown maneuver" that caused the motorcycle to collide with her vehicle, according to the Anoka County Attorney.
According to the criminal complaint, officers said Larson appeared to be intoxicated, but she told them she was not drinking. Later, she admitted to investigators she had two drinks at EJ’s Bar before driving. Preliminary breath tests indicated a blood alcohol level of 0.195.
