For the first time in its 128-year history, a woman is now leading the University of St. Thomas.
Thursday afternoon, Julie Sullivan was inaugurated as the 15th president of the university. Classes were canceled so students could attend.
Sullivan delivered her inaugural address at the 2 p.m. ceremony in the field house of the Anderson Athletic and Recreation Complex on the university’s St. Paul campus.
Sullivan is stepping into the office during a bit of a tumultuous time. A priest and professor there – Father Michael Keating – is on voluntary paid leave after a sexual misconduct lawsuit was filed earlier this week.
