On Thursday, Minneapolis Public Schools joined the nationwide effort, called 'Food Day,' to celebrate healthy, affordable and sustainable food.
In recognition of Food Day, Mayor R.T. Rybak and teachers spent time highlighting food, nutrition and agricultural education in the classroom.
Kids were able to enjoy a special Food Day lunch that included turkey burgers, sweet potato bites and kale apple salad.
Organizers say it's not just about what you get, but how you eat it.
They say sharing meals as a family can help children improve academic achievement, language development, physical health and well-being.
