A 21-year-old man was charged in a deadly crash that killed a pedestrian in Rogers last May.
According to the Hennepin County Sheriff's Office, Benjamin Witte was headed southbound on Rogers Drive when he drifted into northbound lanes and hit a man, who was on the shoulder of the roadway. The man died from severe head injuries.
Witte was charged with two felony counts of criminal vehicular operation.
Investigators say a blood test revealed Witte had marijuana in his system at the time of the crash. Officers also found drug paraphernalia at the scene.
“The driver of the vehicle admitted he smoked marijuana earlier in the day, and a blood test confirmed the drug was in his system. This type of behavior can have deadly consequences, and in this instance it did.” says Hennepin County Sheriff Rich Stanek.
Witte is currently not in custody, and is scheduled to appear in court.
