A Facebook posting has the Chisago County Republican Party apologizing.
The slavery image was posted Wednesday morning, and by the early afternoon it had been taken down. The entire Chisago GOP Facebook page was down for a while.
The page reappeared later in the day, and the chair of the Chisago GOP issued an apology saying, "It should not have been posted, and the party is saddened by it." The caption on the post says "Slavery, against it? Don't buy one."
The former head of the Minneapolis NAACP told 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS he was "shocked by the image, and it does not represent Minnesota and what we value."
Brett Buckner says removing the post and apologizing is a "step in the right direction." The Chisago GOP says it is trying to figure out who posted the image and hopes to find that person and take appropriate action.
Buckner says, "Unfortunately, these things are still around in society, but many, including some of our friends in the GOP, are stepping up and doing the right thing and denouncing it."
