150K Minnesotans to Lose Current Insurance Policy Under ‘Obamacare’

The promise of "keep your health insurance plan if you like it" is falling flat for the Obama administration.

KSTP first told you Wednesday that millions of Americans will have to find new plans because the coverage on their current ones are too limited.

Now, we know about how many Minnesotans this will impact; at this point, about 150,000 Minnesotans will lose their current health care policy because of the Affordable Care Act.

That's something that President Barack Obama had promised would not happen but now admits is not true. "Ever since the law was passed, if insurers decided to downgrade or cancel these substandard plans, what we said under the law is, you've got to replace them with quality, comprehensive coverage," Obama said.

However, Minnesota's guaranteed renewal laws do not allow for any health insurance plans to be canceled.

The plans will be changed under new requirements by the Affordable Care Act.
