ABC News’ Amy Robach revealed Monday on Good Morning America that she has breast cancer.

The cancer was discovered after Robach did the first-ever live television mammogram for “GMA Goes Pink” day in honor of breast cancer on Oct. 1.

A few weeks later, she was called back and told that she had breast cancer.

On Thursday, Nov. 14, Robach will go into surgery for a bilateral mastectomy followed by reconstructive surgery.

Robach said that, while everyone who gets cancer is unlucky, she got lucky by catching it early and is thanking every producer and person who urged her to get the mammogram. She’s now hoping that her story will inspire other women to get a mammogram and take self exams.
