Minnesotans are giving up their Thanksgiving meals and time with family to help others.

A van carrying six Salvation Army volunteers left Thursday morning for Illinois to assist in tornado relief.

The unprecedented November F-4 tornado destroyed or damaged thousands of homes in the town of Washington and adjoining areas of Tazewell County, Illinois.

The volunteers plan to head back to the Twin Cities in early December.
