The Minneapolis and St. Paul Postmasters gave some tips about sending cards, letters and packages over the holiday season at the 6th Annual Shop, Ship and Share event at the Rosedale Center on Friday.

The peak mailing date will be Mon., Dec. 16. The U.S. Postal Service expects to process about 607,000,000 pieces of mail nationally. To ensure your cards, letters and packages arrive on time, USPS gives these deadlines:

To ensure the timeliest and safest shipment of your items, the USPS said to use bubble wrap with all packages and give them the "shake test." They also said to use a strong tape and to include a sheet of paper inside the package that says the sending and returning address incase anything happens to the outside of the package.

Do not send mail that has strings hanging out or rubber bands.

The USPS also offers the new "Click-N-Ship" option where customers can buy postage online and their postmaster picks it up at their home.
