On this National Adoption Day, 14 Hennepin County families were finalized just in time for the holiday season. Twenty children will now spend their first Thanksgiving with their new family.

The Reed family of Stacy, Minnesota, adopted 18-month-old Savannah.

"We kind of started all over with a baby, but it's absolutely wonderful. She brings joy to our lived every day," said Savannah's mom Carrie Reed.

The Hayslett family of Apple Valley, adopted 9-year-old Montel.

"Once we got him in the home, it was love at first sight, he's an awesome kid. He so fun and funny, and there's no way we were going to give him back," said Montel's dad Charles Hayslett.

There are still more than 70 children in Hennepin County who are waiting for adoption.

Saturday is National Adoption Day. The day is a national effort to raise awareness for the more then 100,000 children in foster care across the nation who are waiting to find permanent homes.
