The U of M has issued a Crime Alert after a robbery occurred near campus.

The victim, who is not affiliated with the university, was waiting at a bus stop Saturday at 8:45 a.m. in front of University Village when two men approached him.

One of the men showed a handgun and demanded the victim's belongings, and then punched him in the face.

The suspects stole the victim's wallet, cell phone and backpack and ran southbound along 25th Avenue and then eastbound on Delaware Street.

Officers searched the area but were unable to find the suspects. The victim was not seriously injured in the attack.

This robbery comes during a rise in crime this fall semester. Last Wednesday, a suspect tried to kidnap a student on campus around 12:10 a.m.

A student was also recently kidnapped by someone impersonating an officer and was sexually assaulted.

The U of M has increased patrols in the area due to the rise in crime.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Minneapolis Police Tip Line at 612-692-8477 and reference case number MP-13-398336.
