Public hearings will take place this week about CenterPoint Energy 2014 rate increases.
The Minnesota Department of Commerce recommended a $21 million reduction to the $44 million rate increase proposed by CenterPoint Energy.
CenterPoint Energy provides natural gas services to over 820,000 customers in central and southern Minnesota. The call for a reduction on Nov. 26 came in response to the utility company's proposed rate increase for 2014.
The Commerce Department concluded that $23 million would be a sufficient enough increase to allow CenterPoint to continue to provide safe, reliable service while making needed improvements to its distribution facilities.
