U.S. Women’s National Team to Train in Blaine

The top hockey players in the nation will be training in Blaine this week.

USA Hockey announced that the U.S. Women’s National Team is at the National Sports Center from Dec. 13-17. They will be training on the Schwan Super Rink Monday and Tuesday.

This is the team that will become the 2014 U.S. Olympic Team when the final roster is announced in January.

Practice takes place from 10:30 a.m. to noon Monday and from 9:30-11:15 a.m. Tuesday on Rink 6. The on-ice sessions are free and open to the public.

The team includes five players with Minnesota ties, according to USA Hockey:

Megan Bozek, from Buffalo Grove, Ill., twice won national championships as a defenseman for the University of Minnesota.

Amanda Kessel, from Madison, Wis., was a two-time national champion at the University of Minnesota, and she won the Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award in 2013.

Gigi Marvin, from Warroad, Minn., played for the University of Minnesota from 2005 to 2008, and was a member of the 2010 U.S. Olympic Team.

Anne Schleper, from St. Cloud, Minn., played for the University of Minnesota from 2008 to 2012, and was a member of three U.S. World Championship teams, in 2011, 2012 and 2013.

Lee Stecklein, from Roseville, Minn., finished her freshman year at the University of Minnesota where she won a national championship in 2013, and is on currently on leave from the Gophers to play with the U.S. National Team.
