Teen Charged for Shooting Friend in St. Paul While Playing with Rifle

A 15-year-old boy was charged after shooting his 16-year-old friend in the stomach while playing with a rifle Monday.

The teenager was charged with reckless discharge of a firearm within a municipality and possession of a pistol/assault weapon under the age of 18, according to the Ramsey County Attorney.

The incident happened around 7 p.m. in the 900 block of West Nebraska Avenue in St. Paul. Police say two friends were playing with a rifle when it discharged, hitting one of the boys in the stomach.

The teen was taken to St. Joseph’s Hospital by his friend’s mother and then transferred to Regions Hospital for surgery.

St. Paul police said the teen's injury appeared to be non-life threatening, and the shooting appeared to be an accident.

No other information has been released at this time.
