Thousands Jump into Freezing Lake Minnetonka for Charity

Forget the long johns – on Wednesday morning thousands of Minnesotans took an icy dip.

Despite bitter temperatures, hundreds of Minnesotans jumped into Lake Minnetonka for the 24th annual ALARC Ice Dive.

Crews started getting part of the lake ready last weekend. Because it has been so cold over the past few days, crews didn’t actually remove the ice until Tuesday afternoon, just one day before the dive.

The ALARC Ice Dive got underway at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday,  Jan. 1, at Bayview Event Center in Excelsior.

Money raised by the event will be donated to the Wounded Warrior program "Ride to Recovery," a rehabilitation program for wounded veterans that features cycling.
