Authorities have arrested three suspects in a Nov. 20 robbery and assault of a student near the University of Minnesota campus.

Around 9 p.m. on Nov. 20, the victim was walking home when he was approached by the suspect, who punched him in the face without warning. The victim lost consciousness and the suspect took his backpack, laptop and wallet. The victim went home and called police an hour and a half later.

The crime occurred just off-campus, near the intersection of Essex Street SE and Ontario Street SE. Officers were unable to locate a suspect, due in part to the delayed reporting.

The University of Minnesota Police Department, the Minneapolis Police Department’s Violent Criminal Apprehension Team (VCAT) and the Bloomington Police Department assisted in the arrests in connection to the crime.

The first suspect was arrested by UMPD on Dec. 18.

Thursday morning, VCAT arrested the second of three robbery suspects in North Minneapolis after UMPD issued an arrest bulletin for him. He was transported to the UMPD where investigators interviewed him. After a thorough interview, the suspect admitted to participating in the robbery.

Early Friday morning UMPD investigators arrested the third suspect in the parking lot of a Bloomington hotel. Both suspects were booked in jail for robbery.

UMPD’s robbery suppression detail also halted an in-progress robbery of a young man shortly after 2 a.m., Wednesday, Jan. 1, just north of Dinkytown, resulting in the arrest and subsequent booking of two suspects.
