Police are looking for a suspect in connection to an attempted robbery and assault near the University of Minnesota Twin Cities campus.
On Thursday at 11:55 p.m., a University of Minnesota student was walking east on 4th Street when a suspect approached aggressively and knocked him to the ground. The suspect told the victim he had a gun and punched him in the face. Two additional suspects approached as the first suspect tried to take the victim's wallet. All three suspects fled when a witness approached the scene.
The victim did not lose any property and was not seriously injured. The crime occurred just off campus, near the CVS Pharmacy at the intersection of 15th Avenue SE and 4th Street SE.
The suspect who punched the victim is described as a black male, approximately 20 years old, six feet tall with a light build. He was wearing a purple and green straight-brimmed hat, a black jacket and dark jeans. The two additional suspects are described as a black male, approximately 20 years old, and a black female, also approximately 20 years old. The witness saw the suspects get into a white, four-door sedan that was parked in the parking lot behind the CVS Pharmacy. A fourth unknown suspect was in the vehicle when the others got in. The white sedan went east on University Avenue, and was followed by a green sedan that may have also been involved.
Minneapolis Police are investigating the crime and surveillance video of the suspects may be available. Anyone with information is asked to call the Minneapolis Police Tip Line at 612-692-8477 and reference case number MP-14-002308.
