Public Packs Met Council Meeting on SWLRT Studies

The topic of the controversial Southwest Light Rail Transit line is once again going before the public.

The Met Council hosted the first of two public meetings focused on the studies underway right now into freight lines, water resources, and landscaping along the Kenilworth Corridor in Minneapolis.

It was a packed house Tuesday night.

The proposed route has been controversial because Minneapolis residents are worried about the environmental impact of a train going through the Kenilworth Corridor. Construction on the line is still slated to start in late 2015 and wrap up in about two years.

The next meeting will be at 5 p.m. Thursday at the St. Louis Park Recreation Center.
