BBB Warns of Scam Following Target Data Breach

The Better Business Bureau is warning of a scam following the Target data breach.

According to the BBB, scammers are sending out a text messages which claim to be from credit card companies. The message says 'your card has been blocked in response to fraudulent activity following the recent data breach.'

The scammer then asks its recipient to call a phone number. The person on the other end of the call will ask to verify account information, to get sensitive data from the caller.

The scam has other forms including contact through email and phone calls. In some cases a caller will claim to represent Target while asking for verification of the recipient's name, social security number and other information.
