Some Minnesotans say it feels like summer outside as the temperatures hit the 30's Friday.

While it's not summertime, the swing in temperature of 50 degrees in a week's time had Smack Shack open its outdoor patio.

Dozens of people gathered around tables outside, sipping on hot cider and eating hot soup. Smack Shack's owner was outdoors serving his patrons.

Local skiers and snowboarders also enjoyed the day at Afton Alps. It celebrated its 50th Anniversary Friday.

A daughter of one of Afton Alp's visionaries tells KSTP the business started small. There were 37 skiers on its opening day back in 1963. Now, under is new Vail Resorts ownership, it boasts 18 chair lifts and 50 trails.

Snowboarders on the slopes said the warmer weather made for easier falls that didn't hurt as bad.

Green Acres might open its "Big Hill" Saturday, allowing families to enjoy snow tubing on both of its hills.
