The man who died after being hit by a light rail train in Minneapolis has been identified.

The Hennepin County Medical Examiner says the man is 62-year-old Michael Kwosek from Minneapolis.

Police say Kwosek was walking across the tracks at 42nd Street and Hiawatha Avenue around 6 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 12, when he was hit by the train.

The intersection was closed for about two hours following the incident, and light rail service was stopped in the area. Passengers on the train were transferred to a bus.

Investigators are working to determine why the man was hit by the train. We're told there were no other trains in the area and that the gates were operating. The train speed limit is 45 mph where the accident occurred.

Investigators will look at on-board computers and information stored in ground-base communication systems.
