Police Investigate Woodbury Teen's Death

Woodbury Police are investigating the death of a 17-year-old girl.

According to police, officers responded to a report of an unresponsive teen at a home in the 3000 block of Commonwealth Avenue around 9:10 a.m. Saturday.

Tara Fitzgerald was taken to Regions Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

An 18-year-old man, identified as Cole Matenaer, and two 17-year-old boys were arrested on probable cause third degree murder after the teen died. Woodbury Police tell KSTP, all three suspects have been released, pending further investigation. They have not been charged.

Matenaer could also face charges related to possession of a schedule I or II controlled substance.

KSTP reporter Tim Sherno was told by sources Fitzgerald died of an overdose. The medical examiner will decide the cause of death and toxicology reports could take up to eight weeks.

The police investigation will continue, as her family lays Fitzgerald to rest.

According to her obituary, Fitzgerald loved to skateboard, bake, make funny faces, had a love for everything British, especially British music.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday in Woodbury. 

At this point, additional details have not been released by police.
