The Food and Drug Administration has a new warning about taking acetaminophen.
You can die from repeatedly overdosing on the painkiller found in Tylenol. The FDA has a new recommendation for "combo pills." It's a prescription pain pill like Vicodin, that also has Tylenol in it. And that's the problem. If you take more Tylenol, then you may have taken too much.
The FDA is urging doctors to limit the amount of acetaminophen in the combo pills they prescribe, from 500 milligrams in each pill, down to 325 milligrams.
The FDA recommends taking no more than 4000 milligrams total of acetaminophen in a 24 hour period.
If you're someone who takes a combo pill on a regular basis, don't be surprised if your pharmacist needs a new prescription. The medicine you're currently taking may have more than the new recommended limit.
